4-Wall, 5-Wall & Heavy-Duty Gaylord Boxes
For customers who need maximum strength, our heavy-duty gaylord boxes can handle 2,500–3,000 lbs per load. Their rarity and superior durability make them slightly more expensive, but they are the ideal choice for demanding or high-weight applications where strength and reliability are essential.
The Strength of Corrugated Cardboard
Every corrugated gaylord box is built from two components: linerboard (the smooth inner and outer surfaces) and fluting (the wavy layer between them). Fluting comes in several grades — A, B, C, E, and F — each offering different benefits:
- A & C Flutes: Thicker, excellent stacking strength
- B, E & F Flutes: Thinner, improved cushioning and reinforcement
Box strength is measured in two key ways:
- Edge Crush Test (ECT) — determines stacking strength and how much vertical pressure a box can withstand
- Mullen Test — measures burst strength, or the pressure required to rupture the box wall
Higher-ply boxes offer significantly greater strength in both tests, making them ideal for heavy, dense or high-value loads.
